Hemp Seeds Bhang k Beej
Hemp seeds contain over 30% fat. They are exceptionally rich in two essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). They also contain gamma-linolenic acid, which has been linked with several health benefits. Hemp seeds are a great protein source, as more than 25% of their total calories are from high-quality protein. That is considerably more than similar foods like chia seeds and flaxseeds, which provide about 16–18%.

Millets

Millets are an important part of the bird seed mixes. Above 70% of good seed based diet is mostly consist of Millets. There are four types of Millet commonly used in seed mix in our Country. All 4 have difference in appearance but very slight difference in taste and nutrition. These are mostly imported from Iran, Afghanistan, Australia and Canada. Only one type is grown locally for industry, fodder and human consumption. They are rich in Carbohydrates, proteins and contain a good amount of minerals.

Proso millet, panicum millet.
Cheena Proso millet is the biggest of the family. A preferred choice of large parakeets and some parrots. Locally called “cheena” and “moti Kangani” As compared to other millets it has very shiny surface which does not allow the dust to stand on the seed. Shelf life of this millet is also long. French millet, small millet, fox tail millet. Caneri seeds Smallest of the family, slightly increased in protein value. Locally called “desi kangani” and very famous among Finch keepers. Rough husk makes it easy to DE husk for soft beaks but rough texture of the outer surface makes the dust particles stay on it. This seed must be sieved before mixing or offering to the birds as dust contains the fungal spores and worm eggs.
Round millet, yellow millet
Locally very popular as “gol” kangani.The lightest type which holds less nutrition as compared to the members of same family. The texture makes it easy to de husk for newly fledged youngsters. That’s why the ripened head known as “millet Sprays” r given to the young birds to learn eating on their own. Pearl/green millet A very famous millet type Grown in Pakistan as a livestock feed, industrial use and small portion of annual crops for human consumption. Rich in iron, carbohydrates and good percentage of proteins (8%-11%). A grain contains no husk so the more vulnerable to the pests in standing crop or at storage. A last choice of birds into seed mix. Parakeets and parrots usually ignore this seed in the presence of other seeds with husks. there are few other types r available too but less popular among bird keepers due to their size, hardness and more wastage. These r known swank(a grass seed) , lal jawar, safaid jawar (milo)..Pigeon keepers use a small amount of this grain in their flock’s diet.
